New to printing in PTEg - first attempt not going well

PETG 1PETG-2

Hi all.

I'm new to 3D Printing and up until now, all my prints have been from PLA.

I am now attempting PETg clear and came across problems immediately. Bed tep is 85 deg C, 1st layer 230 Deg C, other layers 234 deg C and label on eSun spool suggests nozzle temp of 230 - 250 deg C.

Before chasing my tail trying to get this printing properly, from what you can see in the photos is there any one obvious problem that I could work on?
When setting up PLA I followed the instructions here on the forum regard Z Height - printing 75mm square first layer (only) at 0.2mm and checking with micrometer.

Do I have to have another Z Height setting for PLA ?

Thanks - Harley

Live Z

Hi Harley, it is a good idea to re test your Live Z, and adjust if necessary

liveZ

your Z for PETG will be less negative than PLA.

You should consider setting up steel sheet profiles for the two materials.  If you ever print TPU it will even be different still.

Consider the sheet profiles

"Spla" for Smooth sheet with PLA

"Spetg" for Smooth sheet with PETG

"Stpu" for Smooth sheet with TPU

I recently upgraded to satin steel sheets and I now use Sm for smooth and S for Satin.

Each profile can be configured with different Z so you can just pick the profile that's right prior to printing.  Do be careful though if you switch between smooth sheet and satin or textured sheets since the thickness is very different and you can end up crashing the nozzle into your sheet if you forget to switch the profile to match the sheet you actually have loaded!

Sheet profiles

Thanks Joan and ssill2.

Are these 'sheet profiles' something I have to set up, or are they hiding away in the menu, or the Prusa Slicer?

This is all new technology to me and I'm in the 'Old fart' age category, so finding it a bit of a learning curve.

Again, many thinks for taking the time to respond.

follow the link

Sorry I pulled this page up but forgot to post the link.

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/steel-sheet-profiles_1955/

Until your first steel sheet profile is set up they won't show up on the main menu.  Once you have at least one it will be right on the menu after clicking the button as "Sheet[<SheetName>]"  and you simply select and hit the button to cyle through them.  There's a limit of 7 or 8 currently, but if you just just use smooth sheet and two or 3 materials, you should be fine.  Once you've created a sheet profile any first layer calibration or livez adjustment will be applied to the currently selected sheet and saved with that profile.

just remember

If you switch plates be SURE to change the selected sheet to the correct one.

Also if you change nozzles you have to recalibrate z for each profile lol.  I did this recently for two printers times 3 materials times 2 and 3 sheets.  I have a satin, textured and smooth for each of my two printers.

It's a bit of a pain but having the profile remember the Z for you for that material and sheet is nice.
