New build plate - New Z?

New build plate - New Z?

I want to start a discussion. If you add a new build plate that is thicker than the old one, how do you determine the starting live Z?

For example, I have a buildplate that is 0.7mm thick. My live Z is -1.25. I am using a new plate that is 1.3 mm thick. What Z would you start for calibration?

Same as in the user's manual--start at the thickness of a zip-tie, and recalibrate from there.

So you have to re-calibrate the Z every time you switch between the PEI sheets and the powder coated sheets?

Yes. Especially if they differ in thickness.

Sure, if the thickness differs significantly, you have to. But maybe somebody could confirm, if it really differs significantly (understand more then can be corrected by live Z adjust). It might be helpful for the others to decide, if it is worthy to buy and combine. Because for me, moving the PINDA up and down when I want to change the sheet is a reason why not to combine.

nobody can know for sure, what the differences are between different build plates...

the following is pure guess work...
if printer is originally configured with stock build plate, and a new thicker sheet of metal is used, with the same thickness PEI as the original. I would suspect :-
1, if the metal is a thicker piece of the same grade of spring steel, that the live Z calibration would remain the same.
2 if the metal was a thicker dissimilar metal, that the live Z calibration would change because the inductive sensor may have a different response to the new metal...

however if the printer was originally configured with a stock build plate and say the PEI sheet got damaged and was replaced with a different material, say buildtak or similar, then they will almost certainly be of a different thikness and at minimum live Z would need adjusting, if there is insufficient adjustment, the pinda may need movingas well.

if both the metal and the surface are changed, then both Pinda and live Z will almost certainly need adjusting...

I plan to do some Nylon printing and my experience on my Delta is that Nylon likes to be printed on glass with Elmers glue stick. is there any reason not to clip a sheet of pyrex glass to magnetic heat bed with binder clips?

If so I can relegate and postpone Nylon printing to the delta onceit comes out of rebuild status (replacing steppers with .9 deg sort, with a Duet replacing the Rambo and a new Effector https://www.seemecnc.com/collections/parts-accessories/products/conversion-kit-for-rostockmax-v3-to-v3-2 )
