[MK3S] First layer issue proggressively worsening but only in solid infill

Hi everyone,

I have a Prusa mK3s, upgraded from MK3.

Just today, when trying to print this object with Prusament Galaxy Black I had a very strange failure. Specifically, the first layer solid infill started progressively getting more and more weak, in a way I can not understand. I will explain why I say this:

1. When feeling with my finger the filament, I did not sense it wanting to go down in the extruder shaft. When pushing it during print, it also did not want to go down.

2. Normally, in this case, I would have expected the clicky grinding sound noise that the gears make when they can't pull down the filament. But, no noise (therefore very surprised to see this).

3. When looking at the extruder gear wheel from the right side, I see the wheel rotating, but again, no filament wanting to go down.

4. Unloading filament works perfect (!) I can see though some grinding on the filament (with small amount of filament powder), but not really that much

5. Loading the filament works normal.

The only change I did compared to my normal print is that I have 0,15mm SPEED profile instead of 0,15mm QUALITY.

Note that a print with a smaller first layer area (let's say 20% of what I had here) finishes normally.

Any clues what might cause this? Just the profile?

RE: [MK3S] First layer issue proggressively worsening but only in solid infill

the ambient temperature where i am, has increased, which can cause this sort of problem,
has the temperature risen in your area?
printing in a warmer than average temperature can cause heat creep, sometimes this is because the printer has been put in an enclosure, during the winter I had this problem if the solid fuel fire got too enthusiastic, and I have also had this problem  when I changed to a non prusa Hot end fan (Left Fan),

Do you have a portable fan that you can aim across the build plate, to see if heat creep is an issue?

Thanks Joan,

This can indeed be an issue, as also temperature in my area increased recently. The printer is also indeed in an enclosure effectively (a closet). I understand why this might appear now, and I am trying the third time the print with the door open and the AC on 2 rooms away.

I will update this thread with the results

Joan, thanks for your suggestion.

I am not sure which action solved my issue, but I did two things:

  1. Opened the door from the closet (in the hallway) where the printer is located and opened AC at 24 degrees from the living room. Maybe this lowered temperature by 1-2 degrees in the closet (?) though I can't say this because I don't have a thermometer next to my prusa and neither I felt any difference when sitting next to the printer 🙁
  2. Switched to 0,15 mm QUALITY preset from the old 0,15 mm SPEED profile.

So, I hope this helps anyone encountering this issue in the future.
