Missing section of a layer

I'm trying to print a 3d character aprox 50-60mm tall. The obj is created in Poser 11 and exported as a Wavefront obj. When I import it into Slicr it appears excellent but the minute I slice it there a missing areas from layers. Rotating the model in Slicr only trasnfers the problem to different areas.  I will post some pics of the problems when I get home . The characters are 'dressed'. Have clothes, hair, shoes etc and I'm wondering if there are small gaps between the objects pieces created a void and confusing Slicr. Has anyone else had the issue and a possible  cure?

RE: Missing section of a layer

Poser models need a bit of preparation before they are slicer friendly.  Some work needs to be done in Poser, some in tools like Meshmixer, NetFabb, and Meshlab.  At issue is Poser (and most display oriented 3D tools, are quite happy with simple 2D objects that have no physical depth to them. They render just fine in 3D scenes - clothing is one of these items. Hair also presents a mess to deal with. Also, by default figures in Poser are not joined - or connected - and show up as discrete objects and shells. So you need to tell Poser what to do with them, and then sometimes glue them together using other tools. Also, in Poser, you will get disconnected objects - mouths are especially problematic - because of how the model is created: the mouth is an object floating inside another object, with faces not well identified - and then jaws and teeth add to the problem as each tooth is an object... tongue... then come things like eye lids, eye lashes, etc.

When I tried exporting the object s in Cura it previewed excellent. Cura has a feature that closes or welds the object together but I can't get Cura to generate the 9 pt calibration and swipe before the print starts as Slicr does. Does anyone know how to do this? Snip 4 shows the obj file initially opened in Slicr. Snip 5 is what I'm left with.

Are there any setting within Slicr that can cure this?

Netfabb seems to work. It closes the meshes and welds them together. I will try the smooth command tonight to get rid of the triangles.

Do the export in Poser with higher resolution (very compute intensive, so make sure you have the right pose before selecting it). The result is much much better than using Netfabb, and easier.  Also, make sure in export you select the option to export as a single part rather than separate objects (not as much welding required).

And it sounds like you haven't got a good Prusa profile for Cura.  They are out there, so do some searching.

No clue what "THIS" is .. the bluish lines?  In slicer those would be overhangs, and no software fixes those. They need supports.
