Isopropyl alchohol is a mandatory shelf item with the PEI sheets, so is acetone, neither are particularly expensive, add a roll of the blue paper 'wipes' that garages often use.

Get into the habit of wiping between every print with alcohol, prints will stick and the bed will stay in good condition. Every ten prints or so wipe with Acetone, I do this with a hot bed > 60 Deg C. I use nothing on my PEI sheet to get stuff to stick - or unstick.

For now you need to get it degreased, ordinary washing up liquid works up to a point used neat on a non scratch sourer, rinse thoroughly and wipe off with a paper towel and keep the fingers off it, you can use a micro fibre towel to dry it but do not use any cloth that has had furniture polish or fabric conditioner on it.

That happen to me with a PLA White that i have for years on store.
It won't stick no matter i do, so i use gluestick to print it. All other spools stick well without it

Re: impossible to print anymore !! and stick on the sheet!!!!!!!!

Your bed looks filthy. (The steel sheet print bed, no idea on where you sleep.) FIRST THING: Take it to the kitchen sink and clean it thoroughly with dish soap and water. Rub lightly with a clean sponge or pad. Dry it and do not touch it.

Raise your extruder to max Z and heat the nozzle up to print temps. Give the nozzle and hotend a good clean with a soft brass wire brush. (If you don't have one, order some and you could try a rag soaked with acetone as a temporary measure.) You want to remove any accumulated gunk that can snag on prints.

If you are only printing PLA, you don't need to use the glue stick or anything other than the bare PEI sheet. If adhesion starts to weaken, try these things in this order:

  • Wipe down with 91%+ isopropyl alcohol. Do this regularly but not necessarily every print. Definitely do this immediately after you've handled the sheet.

  • Wipe down with 100% acetone. Perhaps monthly. Acetone is tough on the PEI surface, so don't over-use this option.

  • Wash under sink with dish soap. The previous methods are good at removing grease. This will wash away anything else that may have accumulated. Repeat as-needed. When in doubt, this is a good step.

  • Use a very mild abrasive pad and very lightly rough up the surface. I like the 3M Scotch-Brite 7445 pads. Obviously, don't do this too often.
  • The most important thing is to keep the bed clean and avoid touching it at all costs.

😮 only on french bed with queen size  and my bed look not very clean because i use this 😕 😕 glue or scotch tape , ..

anyway thanks for all step i'll follow it

So far i cleaned with the Acetone all glue and tissue paper and for now seems working!!! ususaly i wash it with sponge and soap and don't touch it but each time even wth PLA i have to add some few sticker glue !!

i am really impatien to see result with the isopro ..

When it was new i didn't have so much trouble but still using sometimes sticker glue..!! i don't have the coated sheet only the smooth one for now..
i use a window cleaner with a few % of Isopro inside not good enough and my sheet is really clean almolst to sleep on it but when print start i see the mesh ok but then when is a round brim or 1st layer...forget

i cleaned with the acetone and it's ok ..

Re: impossible to print anymore !! and stick on the sheet!!!!!!!!

    Glad you're sorted.

The acetone isn't as bad as many would have you think, as mentioned I'm typically using it once a month but I print a lot. Use it when the prints start to show signs of not sticking - only experience can teach you what these signs are but look for corners that start to lift, look for odd shading in the surface that was 'stuck' to the bed. Don't get too hung up on this or scared of it though as I think it takes a lot of acetone to kill a PEI sheet. As for the 'chemical risk' sheets regard them as interesting and behave appropriately but there is no need to be wearing full hazmat gear, if you saw the sheet for petrol or diesel you'd never drive again. I buy my solvents in bulk (5 to 10 litres at a time) but although I keep Alcohol, MPK, Methanol and Acetone on my shelf, I do decant from the bulk containers into smaller 250ml containers and keep the large containers out of the house. Do yourself a favour and look for the bulk lab supplies / pharmaceutical grades, don't get hung up on 'branded' and overpriced '3D print supplier' prices - small bottles with fancy names are a gigantic rip off. I pay around £16 for 5 litres of IPA - 99.9% pure. Don't buy the spray bottles !!! - atomised IPA isn't something you want to spray near anything electrical, same for Acetone or any other solvent.

I'm going to have to disagree with the 'but not necessarily every print'. I've done this from day one, a quick wipe with alcohol between every single print, it takes no time at all to do and I'm still using the original PEI surface that I started with in January, it is still in A1 condition and that's after around 78 days of continuous printing. Take care of the bed appropriately and many issues can be avoided, don't wait for a failed print to tell you it is time to clean, simply by removing a print you will likely touch the surface, that will leave grease behind no matter how clean you think you are.

I don't use anything on my bed for adhesion promotion or release promotion and have never had any issue even with materials such as PETG - except a lack of patience waiting for the bed to cool (don't try to remove prints when it is hot).

Re: impossible to print anymore !! and stick on the sheet!!!!!!!!

I started using iso from the medicine cabinet which is 91% or rubbing alcohol. It helped a little, prolonging the number of prints between a proper washing up liquid session. I then obtained a bottle of reagent iso which is 99.5% pure and using this between prints has doubled the number of prints before I need to visit the kitchen sink. This is with the powder coated steel build sheet.

well yes all came back to normal !!ouff i use acetone on small area and print on it then is fine...now is just way to print and get good g-code..

are you using smooth sheet or PEI powder coated one ? Neil.K2 ?

78 days print ouch..that sound production...i also like to clean after each print and often clean the glue i use until now !! with hot water and liquid soap..

(don't try to remove prints when it is hot). !! ah i don't remove just after printing but with this kind of PEI soft one easy to bend i though it wasn't neccessary to wait cooling !

Also i post pics as i realize some little star every where no regular on my PEI i didn't remark that on begining ! did all of you have such litlle shyni point ? is it ok or ? wonder me if it's not very small buble between PEI And metal sheet !!?

    thanks

Re: impossible to print anymore !! and stick on the sheet!!!!!!!!

    I have found that:

    1. Isopropyl Alcohol cleaning is required when things don’t stick. Actually, I use it between every print.
    2. Acetone is needed a couple times a month.
    3. Windex assist with PETG prints.

Thanks no windex in France but i hope i'll solve all issue with Isop 🙂

Look up the MSDS sheet. I am sure there is an equivalent.

Re: impossible to print anymore !! and stick on the sheet!!!!!!!!

The windex is just for PETG to reduce the chance that the part will be hard to remove from the bed.

do a proper wash of the plate with dish washing up liquid like Fairy liquid in the UK or Dawn in the US when ever you change plastic type

scrub with iso every few prints

instead of windex for petg i use the oil from my skin along the nose or forehead this reduces the tendency for petg to not want to come off the powdercoated build sheet.
