Impossible to print?
Hello everyone
I designed a Zelda MasterSword and now I'm struggling with printing the handle. Is it really impossible or is just my MK3 unable to? So step by step what's the problem.
This is the problem STL.
It's not too big but it's also not a small piece, average printing time is around 4-5 hours, depending which settings.
The frist few tries were made with default settings of the Slic3r MK3 0.15 settings - but this failed veryfast at around 30-40% of the print. Then I changed the speed, because of it's complexity.
Even with lower speed, it failed around 50%. The fail was all the same, the extruder motor was clicking as it would skip steps becauce it's clogged. So I tought the problem would be too much retraction or a too aagressiv. I tried with 0.4mm retraction, failed. Then I went in "fuck this, I got for testing" and disabled reatraction completely. Well, it went better because it's failed at around 94% 😆 And the quality was... well, you can imagine, how it can look without any retraction. 🙄
Even without retraction, the failure was the same: the extruder began clicking as it's clogged. But insted of just aborting the print, I did this:
But the print was already destroyed, because more than 4-5 layers weren't printed.
The nozzle is a new MicroSwiss 0.4mm, I printed other (smaller) parts without problems.
I used the latest 3.2.0-RC2 firmware with 1.39.1 Slic3r PE.
Filament is Fillamentum PLA Extrafill Pearl Night Blue, printed with 210°C.
Any help would be really nice, as I really don't know, why the print fails. 🙂
Re: Impossible to print?
When the extruder starts clicking it is missing steps.
But this cannot only happen because of clogging, but also because of printing with too low temperature.
What filament are you using at what nozzle temperature?
Greetings
Florian
Re: Impossible to print?
I have the fillamentum extrafill vertigo grey. It says 190-210 but I had to go up to 230 to get it to work.

Wow... good to know, just trying for 220° atm. But I also will test on 230°.
Re: Impossible to print?
Well it's gonna ridiculous. Printed all three with the same settings in different temperatures: 210, 220 and 230°.
Looks like there is some mechanical problem... or any suggestions?

Hi DonGiotto,
check this thread:
https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/others-archive--f66/clicking-printhead-filament-stuck--t14916-s60.html
(or search for clicking or extruder clog or similar).
I guess there is a problem (that this forum has not been able to consinstently solve) that has nothing (or maybe little) to do with your particular print.
People reporting this problem are reporting variations depending on model, on slicer time running, and tons of other factors so, how knows.
But check the thread copied above and when you hear clicking open the idler and check the filament around the gears.
I did "solve" my issue by unassembling the extruder and heat block (twice) and reassembling. I don't know what exactly I did that made that work.
I've posted some references on the last post of this other thread:

(sorry linking to particular posts on this forum does not work. Don't mind it, forums are a totally new technology I guess Prusa will solve that given time)
