How to choose printing materials?

I remember for the first few prints I was asked which material to use for the prints. But suddenly it stopped asking and every time it goes to the PLA settings. How can I switch to PET settings for the printing? I tried to reboot, unload filament, nothing seems to work. Thanks a lot.

RE: How to choose printing materials?

Hello and welcome

It is difficult to make out what the word "it" in your question refers to.  In general, the printer never asks you which filament you want to use, so I will assume you are talking about the prusa slicer software.  The choice of filament is yours to make - you will not be prompted.  There are drop-down boxes on the slicer screen - upper right hand side of the screen - they let you choose your layer height (for example, .1 mm or .3mm Draft), and another drop down box lets you choose which filament you want to print with for the next item to be sliced.

Once you have made all of your slicer choices - which go far beyond just filament and layer height - you slice your pattern into a GCODE file.

The GCODE file is what the printer understands.  GCODE files _always_ expect the type of filament that was selected in the slicer - and usually come out poorly if you load up other filaments in your printer (control panel scroll wheel lets you choose "unload filament" - to change which filament is loaded in the printer.

Generally, you will know which material the GCODE file you have was sliced for - and you can't change that.  You can re-slice the same pattern for a different material in prusa slicer - and then that will produce a different GCODE that is made for the new material selected.

Thank you very much. I think I confused the pre-heat option where it asked me to choose the material. And now I learnt the material setting is embedded in the gcode itself 🙂 and this is specific for different printing materials. Just generated the model and trying out PET 🙂 Thanks again!
