How do I print this?

I am trying to print a hemisphere that sits on a column. How do I print this? Do I need special support? Or PrusaControl software does that for me.

Also what does it mean when the software says support from every where or only from build plate?

Many thanks

Re: How do I print this?

I expect you will need Support because there is nothing s.upporting the edges of the dome.
Support everywhere is often needed if there is a base. Under a part that needs Support
However Sometimes there are holes or voids in a model
That you dont want to fill with Support. In these instances support from build plate will support the outside of the model without filling cross holes or voids

Has that object got to be one solid piece?

I can envision a couple of ways (OTTOMH) that it could be done in 2 parts, and assembled such that the assembly would still function as a single part. The best/better method depends on more information about the object (e.g. is the hemisphere solid or hollow?) and its function.

That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!

Joan and Rufus

Many thanks!! Really appreciate the quick reply.

I am now trying Joan's suggestion - just for the fun of it (It will be my first print with a support). If that doesnt work, I will try Rufus's 2 part technique. The hemisphere is solid - but its function allows it to be hollow as well.

Many thanks again
