Huge print : Hollowing / Nozzle size ?

Hi Guys,

After having printed successfully a middle sized T Rex (in 8 pieces, about 50 cm high / 30 cm wide and 80 cm long), I'd like to print a bigger version.

1) As to save on filament but stay safe with overall rigidity, I would need to keep infill in a few centimeter perimeter (thus creating an inner wall).

I think I've seen the hollowing feature for SLA but how to proceed with my MK3s ??

2) I have never printed with another nozzle than the 1,75, I guess this project would benefit from a 2,85 and a rougher definition ??

Things to consider:

  • Use adaptive support infill with a higher infill density. It makes a huge difference on density, using very little at low layers, but dense (I like 25-40%) to support top layers and get a good finish. I've got some notes here and here that might be useful. 
  • Use wider perimeter extrusion widths for rigidity and strength. You can go up to 200% of nozzle size with good nozzles.  Notes here.
  • A 2.85mm conversion won't help anything. Older printers used 3mm because that's what filament size was available at the time. 1.75mm melts much faster and evenly. If you need more volumetric throughput, I have notes here. You need to increase your volumetric rate. Hotend mods or replacement can help (e.g., Volcano hotend) or just the right nozzles (e.g., 3D Solex). Notes here.
