hexagon shape front perfect back like compressed
Hi there,
its always interesting whats the output. 🙂
Does someone have an explanation why the front is perfectly even the dimensions are correct (16mm designed and printed to 15.97, 16.00 and 15.95mm). We are talking 3d printer 1,5 years old not milling machine! But .... on the other side (100mm long) it shrinks. The PLA material I use up for testing is not Prusa Filament. Standard temperatures 1st layer 215 degrees afterwards 205 Celsius. Layer high is 0.24mm.
I appreciate your help.
Thanking you
Stefan

Be bold my friend. Be bold - tis the way to learn. Besides, what do you have to lose? It will "not stick" in the first layer or it will be fine. I print hexagons all the time vertically with no issues. The call of "no after clean-up" must be tempting you, besides my advice. Printing that shape horizontally is a warping test surely.
if you can imagine it - if you can design it - you should print it!
Make the impossible - possible!

Did it warp up off the bed while printing? That's a likely cause.
Tank you very much!

@blatti
Few other suggestions
Either poor adhesion or environmental temp drop can cause warpage.
Maybe your bed needs a really thorough clean with some dawn/fairy, rinse with lots of hot water dry well, heat it up on the bed to dry properly before it rusts. Don't touch with your fingers. IPA sometimes is not enough.
Also check your first layer.
Best of luck.

Suggest you rotate that on the bed so it prints vertically instead of horizontally. That will eliminate any dimensional squish as well.

also good idea, but I am pretty sure it would snap off the bed (16mm wide and 100mm high) - for now this was my solution - I used two raft layers and it sticks quite well to the heat bed. Thanks for the help!!

@dan-rogers
thanks for pushing me. Even a 14mm hexagon 100mm high is possible.
