Help needed: Why is this tearing-up every time printed?

Every time I print this flat block it tears up like this. Why?

I am using Prusa-brand PETG with all of the stock Prusa PETG settings (80c/230c). I have tried other filament PETG spools with the same results.

The printer does a fine job on all other models and designs.

What's going on here and what is the fix?

Do you get the same problem with other filament or types (e.g. PLA)? If so:

  • Raise Z to max.
  • Heat nozzle to print temp.
  • Extrude some filament.
  • Observe as the filament extrudes. It should start flowing smoothly and coil up on the platform below. If it comes out irregularly after a few seconds, or pulls to one side, you may have a partial clog. Read up on cold pulls.

If your nozzle flow looks good, try a bit more heat. An slowing down (use the front knob to dial speeds back).

@bobstro

I don't use/have PLA. The nozzle squirts PETG out perfectly straight, down.

Change infill to honeycomb.

Some infill like rectilinear has low and high lines, that's why petg hits the infill.

If you extrude to fast, you could also try lowering the extrusion multiplier.

Is the fan running when you are printing PETG, try turning it down to 20 or lower and what speed are you printing at?.

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.
