First try at TPU

I'm trying my first shot at printing Flex TPU with my MK3S. I just got a roll of PRILINE TPU, black. It's printing range is specified at 190-210°/50°.

Everything looks good until about the 3rd layer. Then the extruder starts clicking. I stop the print and the filament will not unload. I can open the side door and with a lot of tugging, I can pull out the filament. Fairly straight, with no blb on the end. I can load some PLA behind it and all is great. I've tried both Generic FLEX and SainSmart TPU. I've tried a range of temperatures, but the failure appears to be in about the same spot. I print PLA and PETG with great results.

After more investigation, my next attempts were modifying THE MAX VOLUMETRIC SPEED. The recommendation in the slicer is 1.0-2.5 It started out 2.5. I've run it at 2.5, 2.0 and 1.5. All the jambs seem to be in about the same spot.

I got this TPU to test, not for a particular project. I went into this figuring I would try it before I needed it.

Hi Gerry,

looks like we're at a similar stage in our printing journey. I just recently did a few things in TPU and had to learn the hard way.

The clicking could be the gears on the extruder slipping over the filament. Counterintuitive as it may seem, this could mean that your idler door is too tight. I followed some advice from here and have it as loose as possible. Turning the screw just enough for it to grasp the thread and keep the idler door from opening. No more jams since then.

The other thing could be your print speeds. I turned everything down to 30 mm/s apart from those things that were already set slower.

Printing flexible is rather a pain, but so far the results justify the effort.

Did you ever get the settings for Priline dialed in? I'm working with it right now and have it close but it still has some issues here and there.
