First time printing ABS

I'm fairly excited.   I finally got ventilation hooked up this morning with an activated charcoal filter so that I could print ABS.

Thought this might be useful for others that havent' tried ABS yet.   I had already bought the ventilation kits for my enclosures which includes a 120mm fan, a 120mm to 4" hose adapter, a length of 4" dryer hose and the clamps to hook it all together.

What it didn't have was a means to filter the exhaust instead of having to move the printers to vent it outside.  I bought one of these

And I printed one of these from the same folks that make the filter.

Using some hatchbox pastel green abs I printed first the batman model that comes with the printer, resliced with abs settings.

That worked great.   Now printing a maneki neko(lucky cat) which is my standby test print object I use to ensure settings are dialed in.   I have come to use Layerneer Bed Weld as sort of my easy button on getting stuff to stick.

All in all pretty happy with this so far.

If I end up printing ABS a lot I'm going to move the printers to my unfinished storage area of the basement.  There I can vent into the sump area which gets air drawn out by the radon mitigation system.  If it's only occasionally then I think this setup will be fine.   The 120mm fan forces the air out of the enclosure and the filter end has an 80mm fan that forces the air through the activated charcoal filter.   I had some discussions with swiss about it and he thought the 3dupfitters filter seemed worth a shot.

I like PETG, TPU and PLA for the lack of smell etc

But I wanted to be able to print ABS/ASA should the need arise.

I find the active charcoal with hepa are ok.  But I vent mine outside in addition.

yeah I'll probably end up doing that  just gotta do some spring cleaning in that storage area.  I have tons of room in there and I could easy run the hose to where the radon mitigation system will vent it outside.  Was more interested in just trying it out in case I had an actual part I needed to print in abs.

The two printers are on a tall workbench with wheels so I can roll them in there when I'm ready to move them.

I prefer ASA over ABS.  Easier to print and less smell.

ASA was going to be my next one.  My wife is big into Halloween and I was going to print some stuff to go on the porch and in the yard.

I have an internal filter for this with no vent and it works.

oh nice, I might get a spool and try it.  ASA seems to have a lot less colors to choose from.

yeah that orange and green are nice.  I was going to print that grumpy jack-o-lantern for my wife for Halloween, That might look pretty good.  Maybe i'll give the MMU a try and do a multi color print.
