First layer after supports
Hi, I am struggling with the very first layer after supports are printed and I am not sure what I can do to change this. The prints look really good and the supports are removing very nicely without attaching to the walls but on the horizontals I always get non attached PLA that will come off with the supports or break or just do not look like they are melted into the print and look terrible. I am trying to get a pic but I was wondering if I could change a setting to help prevent this? I never mess with the settings in the support page so they are always left at default
Even with support you are printing in mid-air and it's going to be loose for a layer or two. If you have a multimaterial printer then soluble support does hold it in place properly and you get clean surfaces.
Slicer generated support is a stop-gap for situations where you cannot design to avoid the need for support or else build custom support into the original part.
Often rotating the print on the bed is enough, sometimes cutting the part in two so that all critical surfaces face upwards and joining post-print is the better approach.
Cheerio,
