Fillament "oozes" and creates tiny spikes on lift up

Hi guys,

When printing with various PLA filaments (HTPLA, composite etc.) the filaments ooze out after the head lift up, creating small "spikes" that the head collides with when it comes back round to that area, destroying the print. It doesn't happen with all types of PLA filament but a good bunch. Anyone know how to fix this?

pictures and slicer settings will help a great deal.

in general if you have good bed adhesion these shouldn't be an issue but you want to start with retraction and temperature. if the print is warping or curling enough to where its breaking the print free then thats another issue.
