Extruder calibration : conflicting results
Hey everyone !
I tried to calibrate my extruder recently, especially the extrusion multiplier. Here's what I did :
- I created a hollow cube, 0% infill, 1 perimeter vertical shell, 1 bottom perimeter, 0 top perimeter shell, extrusion width 0.45mm
- took my caliper, measured all vertical cube faces thickness, and found that I was way off, like 12% under-extrusion.
- I changed the extrusion multiplier accordingly, but now I found that some top layer corners are showing small blobs, sign of over-extrusion.
So I'm in a middle of a loop : if I reduce the extrusion multiplier, no more blobs on top layer, but a perimeter thickness is not correct. If I increase the extrusion multiplier, I have correct perimeter thickness but blobs on top layers.
Any advise ?
Thanks !
RE: Extruder calibration : conflicting results
Extruder multiplier :
Raise extruder at least 100 mm above bed.
Load a white filament. Mark a point 95, 100 and 105 mm above the filament entry into the extruder.
Manually extrude 100 mm of filament (LCD or Pronterface).
Check marks. Adjust extruder multiplier accordingly.
Option 2:
Measure filament diamter. Plug this value into Slicer.
Print a 25 mm cube in VASE mode, make sure you have 100% selected in initial gcode (not 95 which is default). Use micrometer to measure wall thickness. Compare measured value to width setting in Slicer.
