Drogon and Supports

Hi, i was trying to print a complex model, drogon from thinguiverse ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3100640 ) but i'm having concerns with the supports and i'm not sure i'm doing it right

With my old printer i used to work with cura but right now i'm using Prusa Slic3r

The configuration i'm using with supports on build plate only

The supports generated

Isn't that a bit too much? Feels like the model is going to be a hell to separate from supports (i was thinking of moving support separation default value from 0,1 to 0,2) and it's not going to be as smooth as it should... maybe i shouldn't print it on one piece and go for the individual pieces and glue them?

Thanks!

There is no way supported surfaces are going to look good, even if you get them off cleanly. Notice that none of the builds shows the wing undersides. You'll have a lot of post-processing to do if you want the wing undersides looking good.

That is a big model to re-orient. You might have better luck printing the pieces, then assembling it.

If you choose the advanced setting option you have the ability to change the overhang threshold angle. The default is 55 which in my opinion is a bit high. Might try lowering that to see how the support coverage changes. But as bobstro said, there's no way to get that to print as one piece and have the underside look great.
