Designing in Autodesk 3D max

Hello there .. I just ordered my first 3D printer ( prusa MK3+ ) . I do a lot of modeling in 3D max, so I would like to know if there is anything that I need to do in order to print a good 3D model ? Because I see most people are modeling using fusion 360 , and I could not find people who use 3D max for 3D printing .

Any tips or suggestions are highly appropriated .

Wow, $205 a month.  Not an option for me.

RE: Designing in Autodesk 3D max

If you're already taking it in the shorts for that sub, yes you could use it.   As I've found with blender, 3ds max is a tool for animation, not necessarily for CAD/CAM applications.  There's a reason that Autodesk makes all the different tools they do.   As I found with blender, you'll mainly have to be aware that animation tools can create 3d objects that can't be represented in the physical world.  You mainly just have to be careful to make sure exported models are manifold.    I've not used 3ds max in a long time, like since the late 90's, so it may be different now.  Blender is my goto for sort of complex curvy things because I know it.   I'm not sure I do enough (yet)  stuff to warrant paying the 42/mo for Fusion360 so I've been trying to force myself to use FreeCAD recently.   It's got a bit of a learning curve and I think it's a bit buggy, but I have managed create a few things with it.  If you look for the Joko Engineering channel on youtube, you'll find numerous intro videos for it.  Since you're familiar with 3ds max and you're already having that bite taken out of your wallet though, it wouldn't be a horrible idea to use it.  These days it may have tools to assist in cleaning up your model for printing.   The big thing CAD tools have over animation tools is precision.  if you are recreating a part, a CAD tool makes it super easy to say this will be 42mm exactly, this rounded corner will have  radius of 10mm, etc

Fusion 360 does have things like PCB design and a few other things that might be nice if you're doing an electronics project as well.

If it were me and I were paying the 205 a month, and I knew the tool, I'd use it.

Thank you for your reply .. I am not familiar with blender .. I know AutoCAD 2D & 3D but I am not so professional in 3D cad I mean modeling in cad is painful , however, I am very skilled in 3D max that’s why I would like to use it . 3D max has changed a lot since the 90s and there is unit setup where you work in metric system but yeah it’s not as accurate as AutoCAD .. I am trying to learn fusion 360 for more accurate measurements where I need this accuracy, but if I am modeling a toy or any decorative object that doesn’t need high accuracy but needs modeling skills I would prefer using what I am good at that’s why I am trying to find a way to make this works hopefully.

thank you for your suggestions, I really appreciate your feedback .
