Curling/Warping on ABS Print

Hi everybody,

I am experiencing a strange issue. It looks like warping/curling but it only occurs on one side of my spherical part.
The two parts were printed with the same export settings with a couple of days in between.
The first one (upper one) printed fine, the second one has these steps on only one side.

I am not sure if this issue falls into the category of curling or warping or is something different.

Setup:

  • mk3s+
  • ABS material
  • 0.4 mm nozzle
  • 0.1 mm layer height
  • no support
  • smooth sheet
  • closed chamber

Can anyone help?

Make sure your fans are clean.

If that surface is critical, invert the part on the bed - you will need some support under the curves; use "Support on Build-Sheet" ... and why are you using 0.1 layers?

Cheerio,

RE: Curling/Warping on ABS Print

Hi, thanks for your reply =)

It's the outer part of a ball joint, and I need the print as precise as possible, therefore I used 0.1mm layers.
I tried to print it like this because so far I got away without support material.
If I flip it and use supports, I might not get off the print entirely. But I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the tipps =)

Printed the part again, this time flipped, using support.
I managed to remove the support without residues.
This time no carving/warping on the outside of the shell.

@ Diem
Thanks again for your support
