Crash Detection Sensitivity

My printer has started exhibiting false crash detection behavior - it erroneously detects a crash, auto homes, and then resumes printing.  This can happen several times within a few minutes.  Is there a way to systematically increase the crash detection threshold?  By that I mean is there a way to adjust the printer or slicer such that special attention doesn't have to be paid to adjusting either for every print.

RE: Crash Detection Sensitivity

Hi James, ~
did you Lubricate your Linear bearings?

poorly lubricated bearings can cause unexpected crash instances,

As can over tight Ubolts on the y axis, or Over tight Back cover on the X axis,  Or X motor pulley on the wrong way round. or over tight belts. or failing belt idler bearings, or over tight idler bearing mounting bolts

Or if the prints are lifting you may have adhesion issues,

I clean my heatbed vigorously with Hot Water and dish soap, rubbed in really well with a clean dish sponge. and rinsed well with hot water, then dried immediately with clean plain paper towels.

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

@joantabb

It actually seems to be related to lubrication, as it was effectively a non-issue prior to adding lubrication (Boeshield T-9).  The lubrication seems to have made the XY motion much smoother, and the Z axis much quieter, so I would be skeptical if it is adding significant resistance, but maybe it's just enough to trip the load detection.  No other changes have been made to the printer since lubricating it, and it was functioning well prior to lubrication.  It is also definitely not an actual crash, as I observed the hot end while the error was triggered.  I also verified that nothing was obstructing the Y-axis or Z-axis.

RE: Crash Detection Sensitivity

According to manual every printer should be re-lubricated after 800 hours. I disassembled mine, cleaned and lubricated  bearings with lithium grease, which is reccomended. It didn't have 800 hours yet, but works better now (and quieter).

You should also check belt tension.

And -  i raised my table a bit, since i noticed that sometimes table in Y direction crashes in metal bearing holders. So i edited and re-printed higher Y rod holders (raised for 1mm appr.).

The crash detection sensitivity can be set with M916 if the function was previously activated in the firmware (Configuration_prusa.h)
