Continuous warping problem with new 0.6mm nozzle
Hi all,
I keep having continuous warping problems with my Prusa MK3S+ with Extrudr PLA NX2 after I switched from a 0.4mm to 0.6mm nozzle. I've read from various post that wider nozzles can result into warping more material that needs to cool down which increases warping.
Some changes have resulted into reduced warping such as changing to gyroid and printing slower but it still is warping. I don't want to result using glue each time I print and therefor am asking if there's anyone who has another idea how to improve. I am at a loss and really need some fresh input to not go crazy...
Notes:
- Printing a long and narrow shape (14 cm height / 15 cm width / 2.2 cm depth)
- The warping only becomes worse as the print goes on
- Printing it flat on the bed results into similar warping
My latest settings:
- Prusa MK3S+
- Extrudr PLA NX2
- 0.6mm brass nozzle
- Bed temp: 60°C (first layer 65°C)
- Nozzle temp: 225°C (first layer 230°C)
- Using "0.35mm SPEED u/0.6 nozzle MK3" preset
- First layer height 0.2mm / Layer height 0.35mm / 10% infill gyroid)
- bottom fill pattern: Monotonic
- No skirt
- Fan disabled for first 3 layer
- Brim 4mm
What I tried:
- Clean bed
- First layer calibration
- Dried the filament
- Switched from rectilinear to gyroid
- First layer print slower (from 20mm/s to 10mm/s)
- Print hotter (from 205°C to 225°C.)
- Disabled fan from 1st layer to first 3 layers
Extrudr PLA NX2 Material Recommendations: Print Bed Temperature: 20-60 °C Printing Temperature: 200-230 °C Speed: 20-200 mm/s
RE:
Try the PEI smooth sheet. PLA does not stick well to the satin or textured sheet.
I can't tell for sure from the picture but it looks like your using the satin sheet.

Hey, that's a great point. I'm using the textured sheet and will try the smooth one.
RE:
It seems that unfortunately this doesn't work. It's better, but it still releases at the corners even with a 4mm brim...

Can you save your Prusa slicer 3mf, zip it and attach it. Then we can look at your settings and part to see if we have any other suggestions.
RISPONDI: Continuous warping problem with new 0.6mm nozzle
Hey Brain, I was working on a simplified version of the model as it's a proprietary design and the issue disappeared. Could it be that the ridges in the original design cause the warping? Potentially I can reorient the model across the x-axis instead (a 90 degree turn), but I figured that with the ridges the y-axis would make the model wobble too much. Currently when orientated it across the y-axis only the x-axis moves back and forth which I figured would help with stability.
Here's the simplified model that printed perfectly without any warping today...

That's very well possible. Part geometry can definitely affect warping because it affects how the part cools. Glad you were able to get it to work.

Unfortunately it did not solve the issue as when I print my own print (not the simplified version) it still causes the same warping 🙁
