Cannot get this new PLA to print nice ! (multiple test)
Dear all,
I ordered a new cheap PLA spool (dark grey from Prima Value) and after LOTS of trys, I cannot get a print with the quality I would expect. Can you please help me ?? 😪 😥
I am down to print a very very easy model (this 2D elephant head), I am using PrusaSlicer built-in profiles (0.2 Quality / Generic PLA).
I have been trying to tweak the temperature from 215 to 250°C.
I observe every time some huge underextrusion for the first layer. I was used to have a perfectly flat and "filled" 1st layer with 3 others spools brands (prusament, verbatim and the filament shipped with the printer)
I see also some huge drops on the last layer, the lines of the top solid infill parts are clearly visible and the result is not smooth at all.
I printed a temperature tower from 190°C to 250°C but without any significant difference between all temps.
I tried to tweak a little bit the extrusion multiplier but I don't exactly now what to expect from it (first I tried to increase it to solve my first layer underextrsion issue, but I didn't notice any improvement).
What would you do to find the perfect settings for a new filament and to get a nice surface finish for this print ?
I attach 3 pictures:
- my last first layer calibration result - which seems pretty decent
- a close up from the elephant 2D --> first layer (with under extrusion) and last layer (with blops and drops)
My settings:
-built in print profile 0.2 quality
- built in filament profile: generic PLA modified at 220°C
Thanks in advance 😊

My suggestion is to try to print at a lower temperature.
In my experience, I realized that less famous filament brands usually have a lower fusion point.
Try between 195 °C and 205 °C in a little object, like a short box or cylinder.
You would increase the temperature when/if you wanted to print faster.
Also, try to reduce a little more the nozzle height.

Oh and just to precise, I am using a brand new nozzle (less than 20 hours) so I don't think it's a clogged nozzle issue (or that means that this filament clogged my nozzle crazy fast ??)
