Brim prints under model

I have a tall and thin model to print, so I enabled the brim option. This works fine, but the brim actually goes under the model, not just around the outside. This isn't shown in the preview (it shows just going around the outside), but it definitely prints all the way under the model. Most of the time this is not a problem, but this time it is, as the brim material covers over the embedded part designation number that is (normally) only visible from the bottom of the part. The only way to reveal the part designation is to scrape/sand/cut that unwanted brim material from the bottom - a real PITA!

If I print the same part using a skirt with 0mm separation between the part and the skirt, then I get most of the benefit of the brim, but without any material showing up on the bottom of the object.

Anyone else seen this?

TIA,

Frank

Re: Brim prints under model

That's a bit weird, I haven't seen that before.

Are you sure the model you are trying to print is fully flat on the print surface?

The preview should show you exactly what it will print since it uses the gcode to visualize the layers (at least that's my understanding).
