Best slicer settings to print strong gear
Hi,
what would be the best slicer settings to print as strong as possible 3d printer gear?
Either ABS or PETG.
Infill, perimeters?
RE: Best slicer settings to print strong gear
Stronger still would be Nylon or PC or PC Blend (easier to print)
RE: Best slicer settings to print strong gear
Go with 3 or 4 perimeters, and 100% infill for more strength. Also, think about horizontal surfaces (more layers)

I'd go with PETG. Perimeters are more important than infill. Beyond 40% infill doesn't add much. I would try 3 - 5 perimeters and 25% gyroid infill.

Also, take into consideration whether this gear is going to get hot when in use? If so you will need to use a filament with a high glass transition point...
As for infill, etc. as always with 3D Printing it is a case of trial and error. Start at around 40% infill, honeycomb if possible, and work from their. No one can look at a print and say with any certainty what settings to use.
This is why 3D Printing is so good for prototyping.

@przemyslaw-niewiadowski, take a look at these knowledgebase articles:

Great discussion of strengths and weaknesses of each infill type and impact of infill vs perimeters.
I found gyroid and adaptive cubic to the best all-around infills.

RE: Best slicer settings to print strong gear
I've had poor luck with printing gears in PETg. Detail of the teeth tends to be poor. I've had much better luck with ABS and plain old PLA, which turned out to be surprisingly strong for one small gear that gets daily use.

@jsw
Not disagreeing with you at all but in this case, this looks like a monster of a gear, filling about half the print bed on the Mk3S. I highly doubt precision at the edges of the teeth is an issue. In any case, it's just hard to make specific suggestions on questions like this without understanding the use of the gear, what environment it's going to be used in, forces on it, temperatures, etc.

RE: Best slicer settings to print strong gear
If it's a large gear, you are correct, it would probably print fine.
I was thinking in terms of the gears below, about 20mm diameter, and I tried both PETg and PLA and the PLA gave a much cleaner and apparently stronger print.

Thank you for all the answers.
Actually this is a one of the gear in seeder gearbox. Original gear end up with worn teeth at the smaller gear.
