Z-calibration suddenly stopped working

A month ago I bought a Prusa mk3 Second hand it was about one year old according to the original owner and had a total of around 23 days print time according to the statistics

When I first got it, I ran the calibration wizard just to be sure everything was fine and everything worked perfectly.

I Managed to make several successful  prints  until yesterday when the Z  Calibration suddenly failedAlways Point number seven of 3 x 3 grid Displaying the message some problem has been encountered Z leveling  enforced. And then when I click on the knob it tries to do the calibration but it just gets stuck moving up  and then when I click on the knob it tries to do the calibration but it just gets stuck moving up and down until I press the escape button

I cleaned up the heated pad and the removable print surface end it still gave me the exact same error so I decided to run the calibration wizard again because maybe something had happened with the stored data and now the calibration wizard  fails Whenever the Z axis calibration  comes up , Always In the first of four points, The Z axis just goes all the way down and the printer displays calibration failed please check axes And try again

I have already tried  flashing The firmware To the latest version and it hasn’t made any difference, And I also tried a hard reset with no results

The PINDA Probe Seems to work fine The Red light shuts off whenever I put the  removable Steel sheet close to it

Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Víctor

RE: Z-calibration suddenly stopped working

check for

1. debris on tip of your nozzle

2. PINDA lose in its mount

You might try the full reset and data clear; eeprom data has been known to go wonkers. Rare, but it happens.   Also, crashes on an axis are known to cause the calibration to fail.  Do X and Y move smoothly and easily stop to stop?  Lack of lubricant is usually the cause, but could also be U-bolts are too tight.

And there's always reading material: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/fja7hbb22y-xyz-calibration-error-messages-mk-3

I did the full reset and Data clear and it didn’t work

Z axis smooth rods have gone VERY dry now that I think about it!

Will try thorough oiling next

Do yourself a favor and remove all the bearings and clean them in an IPA bath.

Lubricate them appropriately. Oil is not a substitute.

Reassemble with only light compression. Verify smooth sliding from end to end on X and Y axis.

Z axis problems are usually from impacting a cable or zip tie on the way up. Watch carefully from behind as it goes up. Contact = bad.

@robert-rmm200

Thoroughly Cleaning and Lubricating the smooth rots on all axis seems to have solved the problem, it also made the printer much more quiter

Thanks for the bearing cleaning suggestion though 🙂
