Z banding

Hello,

I have been consistently observing rough layer lines in the z-axis, and sometimes there are noticeable gaps. This particular print is PETG at 235C, 0.2mm layer height. I've tried tightening my x-axis and y-axis belts, recalibrated my z-offset, performed PID tuning, and tightened my x-axis carriage backplate. I'm also using a 3rd party hot end, but I've been seeing these layer variations even with the original hot end.

The only thing I can think of is adjusting the extruder itself and that there might be z-wobble in my x-axis lead screws.

If there's anyone who's experienced the same issue, I would greatly appreciate any help in improving my print quality!

RE: Z banding

have you checked the grub screws on the toothed wheels on the X and Y Motor spindles?

Hi Joan,

Thanks for the suggestion, I actually have not looked at that during my last teardown! I'll give it a try. Also I realized I wasn't able to upload the photo of the issue that I was referring to, hopefully this link works: https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Gf6X1MSNB4hQnog8

RE: Z banding

Just started to print with Prusament PETG and was having issues.  Finally ran this calibration and found that I had to adjust my extrusion multiplier by about 7%.  It may be worth running.

Don't own an MK3 myself.

It looks like a repeating pattern.

Think you should look for it in the Z spindles.

But filament throughput could also be a cause.

RE: Z banding

can't tell from the photo if the lines are gaps (uneven extrusion) or layer shifts (something is loose)

is your V6 hotend fully tightened? it should not wobble or be able to rotate.

are your Z-axis lead screws and linear rods straight and rigid?

check everything again that they are not loose NOR have backlash.
