Y axis rattling

I'm having some issues with Y axis rattle.  I had it immediately after I built my i3 mk3s and tried to solve it with some new Misumi bearings.  Unfortunately that didn't solve the rattle.  I tried pinning the lcd screen, lining up the ends of the rods so they are perfectly perpendicular, and adding a little glue to hold the bearings with no luck.  The last solution I could think of was to get some more accurate rods, but other than that I have nothing.

You can hear the rattle under the stepper motors, it sounds a bit scarier than it does irl and the steppers are much louder in the video too, so don't fret over those.

Could your y motor be rattling on the back panel of the frame?

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

I'm still trying to work out how that elastic is going to stop rattling, I can only think it may do something if the Y axis belt is way too loose, and from the look of that end mount, it most likely is in that picture.

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

RE: Y axis rattling

When the bearings wear a sufficient amount, there is rotational play that causes the bed to pick up resonances and it begins to rattle.  Gravity and mass just aren't enough to hold the axis down on the bearings.  Adding some torque with the rubber band preloads the bearings to keep the rotational play under better control (well, better than no control).

Belt is not anywhere near loose. Sitting at 7.7 lbf last time I measured tension.

ps: I use longer screws in the belt tensioner to provide a bit more adjustment range ... I hate popping the bed off to do a simple 1 notch adjustment.  And the "new" tensioner Prusa designed that has similar range to simply longer screws?  Well, is even more Rube-Goldberg.
