Y axis length selftest error
I had my mk3 kit for a couple of weeks now and it's been working flawlessly. One morning I started a print I sliced in slic3r PE a few weeks earlier and it worked great.
About an hour after the first print, I sliced another object in the same version of slic3r, with similar settings. This time something weird happened with the Y-axis. The motor made a noise as if it was hitting something and it went in a direction different to what slic3r said. I canceled the print immediately.
I tried to print the same gcode again and this time when it homed, the y-axis made strange noises and stopped with the bed near the middle of the rods instead of the back. It tried to proceed with the mesh bed leveling and it searched for the points about 2-3 inches back from where it should have because the y-axis homed incorrectly.
Then I decided to calibrate the printer. I went into the wizard and it started the self-test. It made it to the part where it tests the X, Y, and Z, axis and it failed on the Y-axis part, making the same sound. I recorded the self-test where it fails.
It has failed here, in the same way, several times and when I try to just run a print that always works, it fails the bed calibration because it starts at the wrong place.
I am very confused as there is nothing in the way of the bearing or heatbed as it moves. Maybe I should tension the belt or remove and replace bearings?

UPDATE:
Here's some things I figured out and didn't mention before.
- The heat bed is definitely 100% not bumping into anything on the frame or anything else.
- I went to settings then to move axis and used Y Axis to try to move the bed. The motor or something made the grudning noise again. The motor and y carriage move slightly back and forth in a random way. This makes me think that it's and issue with the motor or electronics.
- there is also no noticable resistance relative to what it was before the issue arose.

check the motor plug is ok, remove from board and check all wires are properly inserted, if you have a multimeter check for continuity there should be continuity between pins 1 & 2, and 3&4 (two coils)
re insert motor plug and try again

I'm not good with electronics but here's what I did:
- I unplugged the y-axis cable from the einsy board, looked at the plugs and they looked the same as when I assembled them.
- I plugged it back in and tested it in the move axis function in the settings.
- I goth the same results as before and posted a second video

Ok, so I figured some things out. Tech support told me to take apart the Y-carriage and put the u bolts on again, being careful not to overtighten them. I don't think this was necessary but I'm glad I did it because while the belt was off, I tested the motor using the move axis function and I got the exact same results!
When I turn the motor and pulley with my hand feel no added resistance other than the resistance of the steppers ( don't know the right term for it but its just the nature of the motors.)
I spoke with Tech support a second time and they had me send a message to [email protected] which is I guess is the "2nd level support."

Ok so after talking with support they concluded that I had a bad motor. I was sent a new motor and everything is up and printing again.
