Y-axis layer shift after 9 hours of printing
Hi, for the past two weeks, there have been two cases of Y-axis layer shift. Today, it was printing for about 9 hours without issue. There was one more hour to go before finishing but suddenly I noticed layer shift in Y-direction. I moved the heat bed forward and backward a few times and noticed that there seemed to be resistance to movement. While moving, I heard some strange sound and it felt like friction among small balls in the bearing. I just put Prusa lubricant before the print, did X,Y,Z re-calibration and checked belt tension. All seems good. What could be wrong? I only have the printer for about 2.5 years. How long do we usually need to replace the bearings? In case of replacing, are there bearings better than the stock ones from Prusa?
The reason I redo the X,Y,Z calibration is that before this print, the printer went crazy and violently moved the heat bed back and forth by about 5cm continuously endlessly. I had to press the reset button to end it. Could it be due to bearing problem?
RE: Y-axis layer shift after 9 hours of printing
Maybe the heat bed moved violently back and forth by about 3cm rather than 5cm.
Check your idler bearings, they do wear out, especially if the belts are not dead centre on the pulley.
Cheerio,
