X axis top rod damaged 2nd time.

so I guess I have to reprint these parts?

At the moment I loosened the screws, I hope that fixes it at least a bit.

It's case by case. Unless you determine your printer has this issue by measuring rod deflection, the cause of specific bearing wear is only a guess.

I already measured a deflection, it is slightly outside the tolerance.

The tolerance I gave isn't a stop-go number. It is simply a bearing spec. If your rods only bend 0.009 mm, I doubt you'll see advanced wear in a few weeks. My rods deflect nearly 0.410 mm - and my bearings last months.

How often do you have to replace rods and bearings in one year?

It is a weird question but replacing rods and bearings every couple of months seems odd at least to me.

Been on the same rods for 3 years - yes, they are worn. Three sets of bearings. I have a new kit of rods and bearings, higher quality, and a new extruder housing I designed that allows for support to extruder case size problems (lower bearing can slip vertically to accommodate different support spacings). Just waiting for time to do the swap. Also will be replacing the hot end with higher temp components.

Ah okay, so your rods do have some smaller scratches on them?

I will definitely check out your extruder housing design in case you uploaded it on prusaprinters. 

Which hot end did you buy? I already replaced mine with Phaetus Dragon, print quality got so much better ^.^

I have no idea if my current rods are scored or not. Don't have tools to measure that type of defect, and a visual examine doesn't really tell you anything.  They still work, I still get good prints, even if the axis rattles because the bearings are past their "wear" date (I've used rubber bands to keep the rattle at bay). I think people make too much out of "scored" rods. And in my case Y is the axis that is always worn out first.

My design isn't available -- I don't want the responsibility of someone complaining there's a problem with it: not enough testing, too much risk.

E3D-V6 hot end. It works, it works well, it has good support, and it has good upgrades that are plug and play: different nozzle diameters with well played profiles, and solid copper heater block, titanium heat break, tungsten carbide nozzle - and with those bits it's good for printing just about anything you'd want to print on the Mk3.

There are advantages to some hot ends like the E3D-Volcano, like more flow for faster printing (more watts in, more melt out), but quality is not anything I'd expect to change.

@tim-2  Great thoughts as always.  I have scoring on top x-axis rod on all three of my MK3s.  Some with print months on them and still printing great so not a big concern but most recently just print days.  Black residue in grease makes sense from what you were saying.  Will check rod deflection and, since I tend to overtighten things, the carriage as well.
