X-Axis stuck / stuttering

Hello,

My x-axis seems stuck / is stuttering. I think my board may be broken but I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas on a solution before I order another board.

My x-axis stepper was behaving like this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8ndg_hPAlDXdHpnd09IVi1wUUE/view (from https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/others-archive--f82/x-axis-seems-stuck-or-jammed-t2079.html ) . I separated the stepper from the frame and belt to make sure it wasn't just getting stuck, but it still has the problem:

I moved the motor to the y axis port and the problem went away, leading me to believe it's the board, not the stepper. The other post mentioned it might be a bad connection, but everything looks physically fine on my board as far as I can tell.

I tried reflashing twice, and doing a factory reset on the board. No luck there either.

Thanks for any help or tips anyone can give. I'm hoping I don't need to buy a new board but I'm thinking that may be my only option.

P.S. Everything was working fine until the other day when I added a raspberry pi zero for octoprint. I've removed the pi for this testing, but it's possible I accidentally broke something when disassembling or reassembling (though I was very careful and didn't have to force anything. Maybe static fried something??)

I’m also having this problem. I put in the new extruded parts and now it’s doing this...

Edit: not sure if this is the same problem you are having, but it looks like I over tightened the extruder and x carriage and that caused the bearings to start binding up.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my problem - the problem goes away if I plug that stepper into another port so I think it has to be something wrong with the board.

Thanks for the reply, glad you figured out what was causing your issue!

RE: X-Axis stuck / stuttering

Stuttering motor can also be caused by a cable break in one or more of the wires connecting to the motor. It’s especially frustrating when it’s position dependent where the bundle moves and only in certain positions it causes an open on a wire and then the coils don’t work properly and you get stuttering.
So carefully check your wiring using a dmm.
