wrong height after filament change.

I don't know why this is happening or what to do about it. These are the latest fails over the last week. and among dozens over he past 2 months.

It print head stops and moves front right and asks you to push the button to unload the filament. You do this and then load it again. When the print head goes back to carry on the print it is less than 1/2mm above where it needs to be to carry on the print as shown in the last 2 pieces so it does not stick and needs to be thrown away. It has happened with the last 3 types of filament from different suppliers.

What is going on and how do i stop this?

RE: wrong height after filament change.

Try turning off your filament sensor in the settings menu and see if that fixes it.  If you can print without the issue happening with the filament sensor off, then you can clean it off, blow it out with canned air.  There is a knowledge base article on it.

edit:  You can also check the fail statistics menu and see if you have crashes recorded when you have not had a crash that you know of.  That was what was happening when it did it on mine a while ago.

If that does not work, you may want to reinstall your firmware  and see if that fixes it.

Tried printing with and without the sensor on and no change. 🙁  Only showing 3 failed prints and none of them where to do with this issue as I have made them by lowering the head too far and it then collided with the print.

The extruder starts clicking after 30-120 mins of printing (usually nearer the latter and sometimes longer) and then it causes the problems.  I have to pause the print, unload and load the filament and it is then ok again. If I don't do this then it jams and asks for the filament to be removed and then it starts printing above the print so has to be binned and started again.

RE: wrong height after filament change.

are you printing in an enclosure or a hot room, the extruder is is only rated for ambient up to 40C. lots of retract moves in a short time will pull heat up into the cool section of the heat break and cause jams.  fixes can include faster extruder cooling fan , shorter retracts, cooler extruder temp

Its in an enclosure as  and room is hot during the afternoon/evening. I have a fan on pointed into the enclosure and the temperature reads around the 27-30C range all day.

I have just printed 2 prints each 7:40hrs and no problems. So is it an issue with the  files/firmware upgrades as everything was alright for many months. Although it is back to a filament that was having problems days ago. Also the gcode is an old one. Back onto printing stuff now where I had problems on about 1/4 of the prints..  Will see how it goes with fan into enclosure and new filament.
