Workhorse Mk3s+ reboots when I do anything.

I’ve been running this printer in a school for several years now with only rare problems. Last week it started doing really weird things.

First, it started printing some files squashed top to bottom. Other files come out fine, including the file that we tried playing 4x at once that came out squashed. It looks like it was printing the right number of layers, but making them too short. This seems to happen only when printing several of an item on the same plate

Then, this morning, it printed only the supports out the file that had been printing file before. Particularly weird since the file didn’t actually have supports.

And now, any time I try to do anything (trying to print, unloading filament, preheating…) the printer reboots.

RE:

The first thing to check is you SD card & connection, then your slicer.

Try a different card in case yours is failing.  Clean the contact pins with a blast of switch cleaner or IPA on a pipecleaner.

Try running the slicer on a different machine in case the socket on your regular machine is dirty - clean that one too.

And try reinstalling the slicer.

Next would be a full maintenance session including reseating all plugs and connections and then a factory reset.

Cheerio,

I'm sorry, to say none of this should make a difference. It happens whether or not a card is even inserted or whether or not I'm actually trying to print. It does the same reboot if I so much as try to preheat or unload filament.

Along the way, I reformatted the card anyway, with no effect.

I updated the firmware in case that was relevant, but it changed nothing.

Hi Joshua,
try disconnecting the extruder heater, and try heating  again, if you get a different message, then its probable there is a short circuit on the heater wiring  somewhere
