Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
I have a new Raspberry Pi (3B+) running Raspbian, and I'm not having much luck getting the Prusa Edition of Slic3r to run. I think it may not be compiled for this particular combo of linux and ARM processor, but not sure because I'm a newby to Linux. Can anyone out there confirm which variants of Linux will run Slic3r PE? I'd like to load that on my Rpi and go from there.

I use Linux Mint in the shop on an old workstation and it runs fine.
Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
How big are the models you want to slice? Slicing is a CPU intensive task and for medium to big models it hits even in modern computers. I cannot imagine using a RPi (even the 3B+) as a platform for slicing and doing image rendering.
Having said that, I tried Slic3r PE in Ubuntu 16.04 and it works very well. Same for 14.04.
Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
Thanks gaston.d3 and Frio for your insights. I'm not planning to do particularly large or complex models, but I'm interested to see how far I can push the limits. Ideally, I'd like to run Slic3r PE on my Chromebook once Crostini makes it to the stable channel. Raspberry Pi is a cheap stopgap and hopefully learning experience.
Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
Hi todd.k8 I got Slic3r PE 1.40.1 to run on my Chromebook running beta M69 + Crostini. The bz2 I could not get to work, but the AppImage works. You can't run the AppImage directly as Crostini does not yet support FUSE, but you can extract the AppImage and run the ./AppRun once you've extracted it.
Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
daniel.l37 you are running almost the exact combination I am using. I am using a 2017 Pixelbook on 70 official build + crostini. I have been able to extract the appimage and complete ./AppRun which allowed me to integrate with the desktop, but I get some errors in the command line, and the program won't launch from the icon (see error below). Any ideas? I'm a total newbie with Linux.
./AppRun

Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
So, I've been struggling in the last few days with exactly that. M69 in beta was so unstable (for my use cases at least) and crashing so much I couldn't get any work done I went back to stable channel in M69, which Crostini was not available in. Crostini came back in M70 stable, and what I did before no longer works and I'm getting the exact same problem you are. So, sorry, I'm kinda stuck too 🙁
Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
WHOA - I just got it to work by a shot in the dark. This fixes it!
sudo apt-get install libglu1
Will install the LibGLU stuff, and Slic3r PE Launches nicely after that. Haven't tried slicing or printing but should be smooth sailing from this point on.
Re: Which linux variants does Slic3r PE run on?
I just tried this. Can confirm it worked on mine also. Thank you so much!
