What module produces the beeps? i have to upgrade/change the buzzer/beeper...

Hi all, i've been printing with my mk3 (now mk3s) for ages now and still LOVE it!

However my dog hates it 🙁

My dog was rescued from a squat (think drug den) and when she was a puppy the occupants of the squat would let the fire alarms go off and ever since (10yrs later) she has absolute coniptions when she hears just the sort of beep my printer makes.

I've been printing with the sounds on silent for years now so she can get on with life 🙂 But i need to hear a beep or something now as i'm doing more complicated prints with embedded magnets and nuts etc, i need to hear when to put the magnets in the print etc.

EDIT: i have tried changing the pitch in gcode but it doesnt seem to make any difference to the dog 🙁

from the sound it,  It sounds like a piezo electric buzzer, do you have any info on it? i'd love to remove the buzzer and have an arduino, or anything else, output a nice melodic sound (like a phone ring - that doesnt set the dog off!) - Also i could get the arduino to text me or something, anyway...

any info on the buzzer itself? how the sound is implemented? (signal on/off or a sin wave etc).

anyone done something similar?

cheers all o/

In the LCD menu Settings you can change the sound mode: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/lcd-menu-i3-pre-firmware-3-9-0_1876

With the Marlin code M300 you can create your own modest sounds: https://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M300.html

@karl-herbert

thanks Karl!

i've tried the different modes but the sounds all set off the dog, also i've tried the M300 Gcode changes too but it wasn't enought of a difference for the dog either 🙁

@haabemaaster

There are several other possibilities:
- Unsolder the beeper
- connect a resistor in front of it to make it quieter
- Put a cover over it
- Changing firmware

thanks Karl, yes i will have to get the soldering iron out. Is there a list of the componants in the Mk3? I'd really like to know the exact componant i'm dealing with before i have to stop printing 24/7 and dismantling it.

@haabemaaster

Before you start desoldering, I would try to cover the buzzer with a felt disc or something similar.

I put four layers of masking tape over mine, it's definitely quieter but I don't know if it would be enough to not ignite your pup. Their hearing is so much better than ours!
