Weird X axis issues.

I had a failed print and had to cancel it and now I am experiencing a weird issue.  Printer now thinks that its home is in the right quadrant of X axis so I am trying to re-home it by hand by moving the extruder along x axis.  It moves freely for a bit but then I get a tremendous resistance from the motor even with the power off and cord unplugged.  What would be the correct steps to reset the home by hand and re-calibrate printer anew?

Thank you for your help.

RE: Weird X axis issues.

have you considered lubing the bearings?

The bearings and rods are greased nicely.  It's really the motor resistance that I feel not the bearing grinding the rod. It moves smoothly to a certain  point and then the motor just will not turn.  The belt tension is ok.  It was working fine a day ago I was able to move it side to side by hand just fine.  It's as if motor reached a stopped position and got stuck in it with this failed print.  And now of course with power applied I can't reset the home because it thinks that home is on the right side of the printer.

RE: Weird X axis issues.

Inspect the X axis drive cog and the belt for filth and grime. I don't believe that a disconnected motor can resist motion electrically.  There is another reason, dirt. Lubrication on the axis rails can drip onto the drive belt. The dripped lube on the belt will attract dirt and create sludge. Sludge on the belt will inhibit the smooth function of the drive. Also, check the the set screws of the X axis drive cog for proper alignment, torque.

RE: Weird X axis issues.

So in my case it was as I suspected a motor.  When I unplugged the power cord there was residual charge in the board and the motor apparently. It would move freely up to the incorrect homing position and then it will encounter resistance from the electrical not mechanical components.   I've plugged it back in turned it on turned it off unplugged it and then held front control buttons and that seemed to dissipate the charge and I was able to move the cartridge along x axis just fine by hand with expected minimal resistance. Reset to the left most position manually reset to factory default run the whole calibration wizard and now it is working fine again.  So that brings me to another question is there any way to prevent the printer from loosing its home after either  a crash or a manually cancelled print?  Or somehow making it find the correct home point via gcode?

RE: Weird X axis issues.

It's possible I'm having the same issue. Just random sticking of the x-axis. It runs OK for awhile, but then gets stuck and goes crazy. Replaced the linear bearings, after which it was smooth ~ until I ran it again.

What I'm seeing, the extra resistance that it encounters makes it think it hit home, so it gets screwed up.

Did you replace the x-axis motor?
