Unload Filament Question
Probably a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere so hoping someone can steer me straight. Here goes...I have been unloading and storing filament after the print is finished, but when I do the unload the nozzle and heat bed stay on and keep heating. Are they supposed to turn off automatically? Is it safe to just power the unit off at this point or do I have to cool the nozzle and heat bed first? If so how do I do this.
Thanks for the help. I'm obviously a newby and trying to treat my machine right.

Hi,
At the bottom of the Preheat Menu, there is a cooldown option which you can select.
this turns off the heaters, then if you let the printer sit, until the left hand fan stops (Extruder temperature below 50C)
then all will be well.
If you simply turn the printer off, whilst hot, there is a possibility of the heat block heat, travelling up into the extruder housing and distorting the prints...
I have to say on the stand alone Prusa Mk3S, I typically preheat the extruder, unload the filament and then press the 'X' reset button. (Which turns the heaters off) and then wait for the printer to cool down, when the fan stops I turn the power off...
However when I use the Palette2 with my printer, the Palette 2 ALWAYS leaves a short stub of filament, in the extruder, which is always in the way...
So I have added a command to My Custom End Gcode in both Canvas Slicer and Prusa Slicer /P2PP to eject the filament at the end of the print. so all I have to do, is pluck the waste from the extruder, before the next print!
You could choose to add similar custom gcode end codes to your printer if you think this beneficial, however, then you would have to reload filament between successive same day prints...
the code I use in Canvas is
G1 E-100 F1000: Eject Filament Stub
and I put it just before the codes to turn off the part fan, extruder and heatbed...

The g code that you suggest - can the same code be used for the Prusa slicer?

Joan, thanks for the quick reply and answer. For now I'll just use the X or turn off setting under the preheat as you suggest. Later when I get a little more comfortable with the machine your G-code seems like a winner.
