Unexpected "Please press the knob to unload filament"
Extruder problem?
Hi,
We have a problem with the Extruder.
After printing a while, the displays says: "Please press the knob to unload filament".
The question is; why is this happening?
After unloading the filament, we tried to load the filament (same color) again.
The pulleys are not picking up the filament.
After losen the idler and fasten it again the filament is picked up.
Printing is resumed after pushing the knob.
But this happens to often.
We don't know why this is happening. Is the E-axis house come distorted?
Can you help?

Hi,
This happens when the filament sensor think that your filament doesn't go through and your nozzle is jammed. This can happen with some shinny and/or bright filaments.
Or maybe your filament sensor needs some cleaning.
In any case, you can disable the filament sensor if you have to many issues with the filament you use.

yup my vote just turn the sensor off. for now. I have noticed mine has issues auto loading every so often lastly, bet it's time to clean it.
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

You may want to flash to the latest firmware too. It looks like they are trying to address this problem.

Problem seems to be solved!
After cleaning the sensor and taking apart the idler assembly a few times, we made some test prints. Although
the parts started out promising, in the end we still had the same problem. We probably didn't mentioned this clearly enough,
but when the print stops, the filement could be pulled out of the extruder without any resistance. Even when the idler bolts were tightend all the way,
the two idler pulleys wouldn't grab the filement.
Eventually we took apart the idler again, in perticular the idler cover with one of the pulleys on it.
After reassembling the cover, the shaft which is placed to hold the pulley is now pressed in further then before, this is the only difference.
After this we made a few test prints, so far so good.
All the test prints are succesful so far. 😀
It seemed to have fixed the problem, although we think it would not be assumeable that the
shaft has backed off, by itself, so much that the pulley wasn't in it's place. 😮
