Underextrusion Problem and Weird Solution

I woke up this morning and tried printing something, and I got a lot of under extrusion.

Started troubleshooting...cleaned the nozzle, changed filament, checked extruder tension, tried hotter temperature....nothing worked.

The extruder was not turning at its normal speed (my imagination maybe?), so maybe a bad motor wire? I needed to think for a bit.

Turned off the printer for a minute, turned it back on, decided to try the same print one more time...and voila! It was working normally again.

I think there is some weirdness in the latest firmware that is upsetting the extrusion multiplier, may want to check on it.

First problem with printer since I built it a few months ago...has been printing excellent parts. Maybe someone has had the same experience with a hard reset clearing the problem? Just wanted to let people know what worked for me.

Re: Underextrusion Problem and Weird Solution

There are some settings that aren't reset between print jobs. Those that come to mind are:

M900 Kxx (linear acceleration)
M302 Sxx (set minimum printing temp)
M221 Sxx (set extrusion override)
M92 Exx (set extruder steps-per-minute)

I'm sure there are many others and many variants on these. If one of these was set by a prior print and not reset in your startup gcode, it makes sense that turning off and on would reset the values. This is particularly a problem if you reset values in your stop gcode and abort a job before it's executed. I'm sure it's possible for in-memory values to get corrupted as with any computer on occasion, particularly given the handling the printer gets.

"Turning it off an on" is troubleshooting 101 most places when you call for tech support. Glad you were able to get back and running easily.
