Turning Hot End Heat Block 90 Degrees?

Hello All,

I wanted to see if there is any reason why the heat block of the hot end couldnt be turned 90 degrees so that the heater cartridge and the thermister wires could come straight out vs having to take a sharp turn to join the extruder wiring?  I keep having thermisters go bad and while I understand this is not the reason the additional strain seems unneeded.

Thanks,

Looby

Very good question, I suspect it may be related to how the cooling is implemented.  Cooling airflow may have to change.  There is nothing stopping you from making the change and testing it for yourself.  I have seen some replacement ceramic heaters that are round.

My MK3S+ was modded years ago with a Bondtech LGX extruder and a Mosquito hotend. In this configuration, the heater block is rotated 90 degrees, like suggested by Looby, so the heater/thermistor wires exit straight from the rear without that awkward bend. Of course, the upgrading kit from Bondtech comes with new printed parts to accommodate the print fan at the front like a standard Prusa hotend.  Obviously, E3D's design of the V6 hotend leaves a lot of room for improvement
