Thin (1-2 mm heigth) object, first layers sliced as inverted object?!

Hello all,

New to the forum, and relatively new to 3D and printing.

I'd thought I could find my way around by reading and experimenting, but I've now come across something that I can't get my head wrapped around.

See below: the part is a thin (?) 2 mm "bridge" (designed in SketchUp 2017 and exported as STL) that is intended to fit in between to "pillars" (succesfully printed earlier). The half-circle "ears" are the connectors to the pillars. For sizing, see 4th attachment.
As you can see, the first layers are printed inverted. How come, and more important : how can I properly print this (PETG, transparent)?

Thanks for your comments and insight!

Your attachment(s) have gone astray - only a few filetypes are accepted by the software.

Save your project as a .3mf file

Files > Save Project as

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your parts and your settings for us to diagnose.

Cheerio,

RE:

(Please excuse me for the long silence - I was unable to sit (at the computer) for longer than 5-10 minutes. One small misstep caused heavy back pain; 2nd day now, it has improved only a wee little so far.)

Why in the original post other pictures (all JPEG <40 kB) have gone missing is a mystery to me.

Included (I hope!) is the zipped 3MF project-file  "Brug_80mm_revB" and the missing three pics

the pictures are still in your first post, however they are preceeded and followed by formatting information, which causes the forum to not display the pictures.
I Don't know what you did to cause the formatting information to be there, and I don't know why the forum withholds the information, but letsw me see it when I edit your post...
Here is what the forum contains, in respect of one of your  pictures from your first post

I don't know whether you could see that information when you wrote the post.  or whether it appeared as a by product of some issue within the forum infrastructure.

I Have reported this sort of issue to the Prusa team, with no response in the past.

If you did see the formatting data, and if you had edited it out... Like below

the image would have displayed.
However, I Don't expect you to know that in advance.
I Truly wish the devs, could sort this out, to give users a better experience in the forum.

I would be interested to know what you have done differently in the latter post, to make the pictures visible...

Thanks for this clarification, Joan - might (should) come in helpful in the future; I'm pretty sure I'll come up with more questions in my journey mastering 3D printing 😉

BTW I can't recall fiddling around with formatting, just typing and "Add media". I did add details to the individual media while in the upload "view", though.

In the time I have been moderating, no one, so far, has been able to say what they did differently between when their pictures were hidden in the formatting, and when they began to become visible...

Personally i generally use Drag and drop to place pictures. with the occasional Add Media...

BUT Drag and drop, seems to need your images to be dropped into the lower sections of the text window.

Might be a matter of at which position of the cursor you let go of the lmb while drag-n-drop?
Should I at some point come across something notable in this respect, I am inclined to inform you (which is to say: I definitely will, but given that I likely might forget once this occurs again; until a few posts later I remember that someone sometime somewhere said something about vanishing attachments and whatnot...)

Meanwhile, my question about how this part is incorrectly sliced (and what to do about it) remains unsolved...

Hopetee your model is broken.  Prusa Slicer is informing you about that with the yellow warning triangle next to it in the tree list.  It repairs 835 facets but there are still 16 open non manifold edges which is what are causing the problem.

If you are using a windows version of PS you can use the built in windows repair tool by clicking on the triangle and letting windows repair it.  (which it will successfully do).

If you aren't on windows then you need to find a different tool to fix broken models in the future, unless its one you created.  In that case you need to check your workflow and determine what is causing you to have non manifold edges.

I repaired it in Blender using it's 3dprint tool.  I have attached the fixed file which slices correctly just in case.

RE: Thin (1-2 mm heigth) object, first layers sliced as inverted object?! [SOLVED]

Sigh... so much to learn...
In retrospect, my result is obvious when the model is broken. Obviously I never realised a broken model (w/c)ould cause this to happen. (slams forehead)

@neophyl : thanks a 10^6. I deeply bow to you and to community effort!
BTW: PS also repaired -and now sliced- successfully.

Shame on me: I wasn't even aware of the Sidebar; I think it was (is) hidden by default when PS installed. Upon loading The warning (triangle) is there - for those who know where to look. I definitely need to take more time exploring PS. A few succesfull prints doesn't mean I've arrived at the point of the learning curve where I can confidently tell myself I know my way around. Typically, I'm out of "beginner's luck" 😉
