Thermistor or new hot end?

So, rookie mistake. I got a nice big blob of plastic on a failed print (always observe your first two layers kids, don't hit print and go to the movies) While cleaning up the mess I got a bit over zealous and broke one of the thermistor wires. I looked on the web site for parts and did a quick search here on the forums. Would you suggest just replacing the termistor or just getting an entire hot end replacement? A few posts on here seem to imply it is a bit of a tough replacement and might be worth the extra money for a drop in fix. If you think it is better to just replace the thermistor are there any good tutorials out there? Only one I could really find were a couple old v6 build videos. Thanks for any help! Just when you should know better mistakes sneak up on you!

Re: Thermistor or new hot end?

It's not that hard to get a thermistor out unless it's really stuck in there from the residual plastic.

If I were you I would consider buying this "upgrade kit" below and cutting/soldering in the molex connector for easier swap next time. You also get a shiny new block and a silicone sock! The silicone sock will help prevent attack of the blobs in the future, and helps stabilize hot end temperatures.

PS: The molex connector would require soldering. Any way you cut it, you have to do some soldering unless you want to undo your wire bundle and replace the thermistor with the stock one: https://www.printedsolid.com/products/prusa-mk2-mk3-thermistor-cartridge
