Thermal Runaway

Ok so I get a massive blob on my new mk3s (my fault didn’t set z right) but as I was removing it the thermistor came out of the copper sleeve. I could still sense and dropped to ambient temp, but the hot end kept heating! For about 30s until I shut off the printer when smoke came pouring out.

I am very worried that the printer doesn’t have thermal runaway enabled, any of my other printers would have halted within 5s but this didn’t.

Re: Thermal Runaway

Ouch ... yeah, definite "could be better" issue. You'd think the printer would be smart enough to see the temp isn't rising with power applied and know something is up. Especially if the thermistor was reporting a temp decline as it cooled back to ambient. Any chance the thermistor was showing even a small temp rise during all this (a response to proximity and radiant heating)?

I know I've seen "thermal runaway" alerts on my printer for other reasons (print fan cooling the nozzle too well when printing a part that had a wall that forced air up and around the heater block; so there is some checking for it.
