Temp Issues

Purchased pre-assembled MK3S a couple months ago. Was printing fine until I tried my hand at printing lithophanes a few weeks ago. Since then, I've been having temp issues. I think the lithophane issue is just a coincidence in timing but wanted to make sure I cover everything I've experienced.

Most times it's "MINTEMP HOTEND fixed" but once it showed that the nozzle temp maxed out and once I actually watched temps fluctuate between 210 and 240+ (set for PLA at 215) for about 2-3 minutes.

I checked all the known spots on the einsy and the connections on the extruder end and they all seem correct. What does usually "fix" the problem is jiggling the wiring harnesses which leads me to believe there's either a shorted wire somewhere in the bundle or a bad connector somewhere. I've only had this thing a few months and had maybe 50 hours on it doing small projects to learn all the settings when this started. Anyone know of anything else I can check before I ask for a replacement wiring harness?

Again, nothing consistently malfunctions so it's been difficult to try to troubleshoot other than for known, static ohm and voltage values.

TIA.

RE: Temp Issues

Most likely it's a bad thermistor and because it's still under warranty contact prusa support via live chat

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

RE:

Even more likely is a loose connection.

Unplug and reinsert the thermistor plugs at the Einsy end.

After that, a broken conductor as you suspect; you should be able to spot it if you attach a multimeter and watch the resistance as you wiggle the wire.

Cheerio,

RE: Temp Issues

Thanks all for the recommendations.

Prusa actually got in touch with me and sent a replacement thermistor (already on hand). Can't ask for better service when the service actually reaches out to you.

I did check for connections again, took a closer look at them and they seemed ok. So, as soon as I can get this thermistor swapped out, I'll update the thread.

RE: Temp Issues

It wasn't that the thermistor failed but that the wires were pinched and intermittently shorting where they enter the Einsy base.
