Stuck filament

Hi everybody,

i got the filament stuck.

i tried all of the common recommendations:

tried to load, unload, heat up to 250 deg, manually open door

the filament seams whole, but wont move.

Any other tips or suggestions?

thank you

Disassemble? It's not that hard.

Depending on where the filament is stuck, you may be able to use a 1.5mm rod or hex wrench to dislodge it without extruder disassembly. In particular, if the filament is broken off below the bondtech extruder gears, you can use a 6in/15cm X 1.5mm rod to move it. Try either:

  1. Open the extruder door
  2. Heat the nozzle to filament print temp
  3. Use the rod (or hex wrench) to poke down through the filament guide, past the extruder gears to push the broken-off filament down into the hotend. You may be able to press it far enough that you can feed fresh filament in.

Or:

  1. Open the extruder door
  2. Raise Z to max
  3. Remove the nozzle (follow nozzle changing guidelines)
  4. Clean out hotend with nozzle still hot (carefully!)
  5. Use 1.5mm rod from below (the wrench is likely too short) to push broken-off filament up to where you can grab it with needle-nose pliers from the PTFE tube

I prefer to start with method 2 since it avoids potentially pushing partially molten filament further into the PTFE tube, but it does require heating and removal of the nozzle. If the filament is snapped off cleanly, simply pushing it down using method 1 is often sufficient. I've also used method 1 to clear a plug without extruder disassembly as shown here.

Which more suitable location do you suggest?

We have no idea which printer this relates to (it may even be non-PR) and that really does make it difficult for moderators to do their jobs 🙁

To be honest, I am tempted to delete the thread, so that the OP has to post again, and hopefully in an appropriate location.

Well it certainly has nothing to do with 'awesome prints' 😉

We could assume that he has a least a mk3, but then......

at least he *has* a 3d printer. Was a help post from a random person a few weeks back asking for help with a regular old 2d inkjet...

OK, I will do that and move to the Mk3 subforum.
