Static/buzzing sound from the electronics box
Hi
I have my mk3 in a typical IKEA enclosure, with the PSU mounted externally.
I have started noticing my electronics (not the PSU and not fans) make some noise constantly as long as the printer is powered on. Regardless of temperatures, happens both directly after powered on, as well as after hours of printing.
As far as I can tell, there is no fan of any kind inside the electronics box.
So, is this normal, or something to worry about?
It is not loud, but easily noticeable, especially now when listening inside the enclosure.
Thanks,
Jan
Re: Static/buzzing sound from the electronics box
I wouldn't be overly concerned, you are probably hearing the PWM control or motor drive/hold signals resonating either in inductors or the motors themselves. I hear it too and I've noticed it corresponds to exactly those cases - either the hot end or heatbed are powered, or the Z motors are powered to hold their position.
Re: Static/buzzing sound from the electronics box
Do you have the latest firmware? I had a bit of PSU noise that has been significantly reduced in the latest firmware.
That said, there are some electrical noises that are quite normal - coil whine from inductors or microphonic effects from ceramic capacitors are fairly common and can change with aging. Sometimes physical restraint (glue) or replacement of parts can stop it, but it's not necessarily indicative of an imminent failure.

Thanks, that's what I thought too. Just wanted to air the issue. Thanks 😀
