Squeaking/Rattling Noise

Hi,

I got squeaking and rattling noise in my extruder unit during printing a tantillus frame. So far I only printed up to about 50 hours total time and the noise suddenly came. The squeaking noise sounds like from the belt but rattling sounds like from the linear bearing.

I didn't cancel the print as it is a 20 hour print was at 60%. I am planning to change the print fan that I got and try see if I'm able to solve it.

Anyone has the same issues and how do you fix this?

Re: Squeaking/Rattling Noise

The printer apparently had some filament jams and the heatbed timed out. I think the filament jam were detected about 3-4 hours before I got home, I noticed the printer stated heater timed out. I decided to take out the filament by opening the extruder idler part. I got the same filament in again and it continues printing. But the heatbed didn't heat itself on again, running on v3.2.1 (maybe fixed on 3.3.0).

After the printer started printing again, I can barely hear the noise again but after at least 15 mins of printing the noise started to get loud. It became its loudest noise after about 3-4 hours after it has resumed printing from the above filament change and finally extruder skips its steps where there are jams inside the nozzle. Did take out the filament and load the same again. The printer began to print but the noise were gone even after at least 15-30 mins of printing.

I was thinking that it may be due to the fact that the current for extruder is set too high and extruder is hot, or the extruder kind of having a hard time pushing the filament. This is the first time I ever encounter this problem.

I am printing PLA by the way

Re: Squeaking/Rattling Noise

I had a similar problem with noise coming from the right side of the X axis. It turned out to be a frozen idler bearing.

I was able to print fine for a couple weeks while I tried to figure out where the noise was coming from, but eventually the bearing got so bad that it was hard to move the extruder left and right by hand. Prusa was good about sending a replacement part once I found the problem.

Good to have yours fixed =D

Mine however, continuing printing last night from what I think a false positive filament runout and continued for about at least 6 hours, the extruder didn't make any noise.

If talking about frozen bearing, I think it is impossible to have such a thing since my ambient temp is around 30'c.

So far my extruder motor is silent.
