Software that will allow text file input with data points

I'm a newbie to Prusa and am trying to work out which software package to go for. I'm trying to find out which free or low-cost software will enable me - once I've learned the package - to work with external code. I'm writing some code in other software that will give me a set of around 200 data points (x, y, z positions). I'd like to turn these into a text file (or other format) and input them it into the 3D design package. Then, at each point, place a 3D object there to build up my composite 3D shape. Whichever package I embark on, I want to know this is possible after I've learned the basics. It feels like a pretty basic requirement and likely to be a function avaialable on the design package but I'm new to 3D design and wanted to double-check.
