Slicer Gaps

Today I tried to print an object I have printed many times before.  When I clicked on the Preview mode, the sliced image had a number of large gaps in it.  The object is rather complicated and has been through many edits, which can cause internal errors, but I have never seen this behavior in the many prints leading up to this one.

The original object is shown in Pic 1.  The sliced object is shown in Pic 2. (Entering pics in this forum is very iffy.  Can't tell if it loads both files until it is too late.  Have not had good luck in the past.)

I can’t tell where the error is - in the CAD conversion to .stl, or in the Prusa Slicer.  I have done a number of edits to the file trying to eliminate internal conflicts.  I have tried to use different Print Settings is PS, with no change.  All sliced versions look the same.  I even had PS repair the .stl file, to .obj.  No change.

Any ideas?

RE: Slicer Gaps

You haven’t said if you have re-saved the CAD file. Make a few changes and re-save. This has fixed a couple odd imports.
It seems strange you should have errors if you designed the part in CAD software. Maybe check the part too. Also save just a portion of the object to see if it is still an issue.

RE: Slicer Gaps

Post the file or better yet post the .3mf project file which will save the model and all your settings.  Needs to be zipped up to attach to the forum.

Without that its all just wild ass guesses.

RE: Slicer Gaps

OK, figured it out.  Whenever I post a problem my mind kicks into gear (where was it before?).

The problem was in the original CAD file.  After many failed tests, I had to go back to the trash and pull out an old version to get a copy that did not split.  Glad I didn’t empty the trash.  There was no way to tell from the file itself that it was bad.  I don’t know where along the design/mod process the error occured, but when the old file worked, I had the answer.

I made many mods to the old file to bring it up to date, but that didn’t bother the slicing.

I also fixed another problem with the print posted earlier as a separate post - that of outside wall layer shifting parallel to internal structures.  When I made the wall thickness match the “magic number” of 1.69mm with 4 perimeters, the layer shifting disappeared (on one test).  I will see if that holds up. (I will go post that result in that forum).
