Significant burning smell; everything is otherwise working - is this a problem?
Hi all,
I have an i3 Mk3 that shipped with the B6 extruder assembly. I have just finished upgrading the assembly to version B7 and changed the spiral wrap to the textile wrap.
Right now, when the extruder heats up, it emits strong burning smell. The printer appears to otherwise be functioning normally; I went through the calibration wizard and everything is working fine.
This has happened to me once before with a printer after replacing its PTFE tube; in that case it simply went away on its own after some time.
Is there something that I am doing incorrectly when disassembling/reassembling the extruder assembly that's causing a part to burn? And is this something that requires action on my part so that my printer doesn't break?

If you smell something is burning, then it's a case. Common issue is plastic leakage. Either the PTFE tube is not sitting right or the nozzle is not screwed tied.
But maybe there are some other particles on the heater block. You can check it visually.

The smell persists even after the block is cleaned. I should also point out that the smell began before I loaded any filament but after completing the upgrade.
I did find that my PTFE tube was poorly aligned when I tested for plastic leakage by loading filament (the filament could not make it through to the tube in the hotend), so thank you for suggesting it. I wonder if that may have been the cause and there had been leakage from before I started the upgrade process? Or if the PTFE itself was starting to smell (seems unlikely since the melting point is over 100C hotter than the PLA temperature mine was at), or something else entirely.

Open your einsy case and inspect the heatbed and hot end connectors. also check the heatbed connections under the cover on the bed, those are the most likely culprits if you don't see anything wrong on the hotend itself.
